One of the ways that Kids Belong supports local foster and adoptive families has been through our closet locations. The foster closets provide clothes and items that foster families need to care for the kids in their home, so they have to spend less time (and money) to get the kids what they need. All of this is provided free of charge.
Our main location has been, and continues to be, on Apple Ave in Muskegon, hosted by Fellowship Church. This is the site of our back to school open house, and the closet is open weekly for foster families to come and shop.
We have had an influx of new items in the closet in these last few weeks, from shipments of brand new winter coats to racks full of shoes and kids clothing. As we continue to make new friends and partnerships in the community, we are connecting those who want to help bless and support foster care with what we do. Our support teams have been doing a lot of bargain and clearance shopping to help bring this influx of brand new clothing items into the closet, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
Also on the horizon for us is a potential new closet location in Grand Haven. We are hoping that a Grand Haven location will help us serve Ottawa county even better than we have been able to do so far.
Currently we are working on setting up the Grand Haven closet in a temporary location in order to get up and running, and we are hoping to find a larger and more permanent location in the future. We will be excited to share more details about this location soon!
